MB Wilkes is a family-owned business based at Henbury Quarry in Corfe Mullen, near Wimborne, Dorset. With over 60 years of experience, the company supplies aggregates, building materials and landscaping products to trade customers and homeowners across the region.
Supporting a busy operation means keeping people, systems and communications connected. But separate networks, ageing computers and a largely reactive approach to IT support had left room for improvement.
Ingenio IT took a broader view: understanding how the business worked, identifying where existing technology was falling short and making practical improvements across connectivity, equipment and ongoing support.

Unlocking the benefits of Starlink
MB Wilkes already had Starlink alongside its existing broadband connection, but the two operated on separate networks. With Starlink running through a consumer setup, the business wasn’t getting the full benefit of its investment.
We brought those networks together and introduced business-grade routing, making Starlink the primary connection while retaining the existing broadband as a secondary connection.
This created a more cohesive setup, allowing the business to make better use of the connectivity already available.
Looking beyond internet speeds
Improving connectivity involved more than choosing the faster connection.
The network also needed to accommodate the business’s telephone system and the requirements of particular devices and services. We configured routing around those needs and prioritised voice traffic to support calls alongside everyday internet use.
That attention to the wider network helped turn separate connections into infrastructure designed to serve the business.
Since Ingenio IT took over, we’ve seen a real improvement across the business. They brought our separate networks together so we could properly benefit from Starlink, replaced older PCs and tackled issues that had needed attention for some time. Alex and the team look at the bigger picture and suggest improvements before things become a problem. It’s reassuring to have people who understand our business and take ownership of our IT.
Modernising the everyday working experience
Alongside the network changes, we supplied new PCs as part of a wider technology overhaul.
Replacing ageing equipment brought the improvements directly to staff at their desks. A better connection is only part of the experience: the computers people use every day also need to be up to the job.
By addressing both connectivity and equipment, we gave MB Wilkes a stronger foundation for everyday work and future improvements.
Moving towards proactive support
Previously, IT support had largely focused on resolving faults as they arose, leaving limited opportunity for longer-term planning.
Our approach brought those individual issues into a wider picture. We considered how the computers, connections and services worked together, and where changes would make a useful difference.
That means helping MB Wilkes plan improvements, identify weaknesses and make informed decisions about its IT, alongside providing support when something needs attention.
The result
MB Wilkes now has a more cohesive technology setup, with its previously separate networks brought together, Starlink put to better use and new PCs supporting day-to-day work.
The wider change is in how that technology is managed. With Ingenio IT taking a proactive view across the business, MB Wilkes has a partner who understands the infrastructure, takes ownership of issues and helps plan what comes next.
